Each year the OFL awards two scholarships in honour of five distinguished trade unionists.
The 2006 awards were given in honour of: Allan Budway, Sheet Metal Workers; Selma Garten CUPE; Tom Kukovica UFCW; Michael Lewis USW; Bonnie Robichaud PSAC
Applications for the scholarships were to include a 1,000 word essay on “How will public-private partnerships affect the future of students and workers under 30 in Ontario, particularly workers and students from equity seeking groups?”.
This year’s winners are:
Kristin Kniehl, from Etobicoke, Ontario who entered the Ontario Institute for Studies in Education of the University of Toronto for a degree as Master of Education, Sociology in Education; and
Jennifer Macfarlane of Waterdown, Ontario who entered Engineering 1 at McMaster University.
